Oakland Prepares Massive Celebration for Olympic Champion Alysa Liu — Here’s How to Attend or Watch This Historic Rally

A CITY IS READY TO CELEBRATE ITS OLYMPIC STAR.

Oakland is preparing to welcome home figure skating champion Alysa Liu with a major public celebration following her historic performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.

The rally, organized by the mayor’s office, is expected to draw thousands of fans eager to honor the hometown athlete who captured global attention with her remarkable achievements on the ice.

THE EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN OAKLAND.

The public celebration is scheduled to be held at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, located outside Oakland City Hall. The plaza sits above the 12th Street/Oakland City Center transit station, making it one of the city’s most accessible gathering spaces.

Organizers expect the location to host around 7,000 attendees for the special event.

FANS WILL NEED TO ARRIVE EARLY.

Doors for the rally are set to open at 9 a.m. on March 12, while the official program is expected to begin at 12 p.m. and run until about 1:30 p.m.

Due to the large number of expected attendees, organizers are encouraging fans to arrive early to secure their spots before the plaza reaches capacity.

ALYSA LIU IS EXPECTED TO SPEAK DURING THE CELEBRATION.

According to event organizers, Liu will attend the rally in person and address the crowd during the program.

For many fans, it will be a rare opportunity to celebrate alongside the athlete who recently made history on the Olympic stage.

TICKETS WERE CLAIMED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY.

Although the event is free, tickets were required for entry and were limited to two per person to ensure fair access for the community.

Organizers say all available tickets were reserved shortly after registration opened.

BUT FANS CAN STILL WATCH FROM HOME.

Those unable to attend in person will still have several ways to watch the celebration live.

Local broadcasters such as NBC Bay AreaCBS, and KTVU are expected to stream or broadcast the rally.

The event will also be available through the City of Oakland’s YouTube channel and other online streaming platforms.

THE RALLY IS DESIGNED TO BE A FAMILY-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY EVENT.

Organizers say the celebration will welcome fans of all ages. Children under five do not require a ticket, although space remains limited.

Security screenings will be in place, and certain items — including drones, fireworks, weapons, and large banners — will not be allowed inside the plaza.

Food trucks and non-alcoholic beverages are also expected to be available for visitors attending the event.

FOR OAKLAND, THE MOMENT REPRESENTS MORE THAN JUST A SPORTS CELEBRATION.

It is a chance for the city to come together and honor one of its own — an athlete whose Olympic success has brought pride to the entire community.

And on March 12, thousands of fans will gather to celebrate the champion who put Oakland back in the global spotlight.
