F1 agrees new TV deal in UK as announcement made over future of coverage

F1 and Sky Sports have become synonymous with each other over the years, and an announcement has now been made over whether their partnership will continue in the long-term future

Sky Sports have confirned they have extended their agreement as the exclusive broadcaster for F1 in the UK and Ireland for a further five years. The confirmation came today, with both Sky Sports and F1 releasing a joint statement revealing the deal will run until 2034.

Back in 2012, Sky launched the dedicated Sky Sports F1 channel as part of their broadcasting rights acquisition. The channel has remained the home of F1 coverage across the UK and Ireland ever since.

Alongside F1 subscribers on Sky Sports, every Grand Prix is also broadcast on NowTV, with live coverage additionally extending to Formula 2, Formula 3, F1 Academy and the Porsche Supercup.

The news was confirmed by representatives from both Sky Sports and F1. Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali said: “Sky has always been a dedicated, trusted and passionate partner since we began our relationship many years ago.

“Their world-leading approach to live broadcasting, content creation, behind the scenes analysis led by a truly amazing group of on-screen talent has made the difference in continuing to grow our sport in the UK, Ireland and Italy and I am delighted we will be taking our partnership into the next decade.”

In addition, Dana Strong, group chief executive Sky, said: “We’re proud of the role we’ve played in supporting the sport’s growth through world-class storytelling, innovation and long-term investment.

“This new agreement secures Sky as the home of Formula 1 for years to come, as the sport enters an exciting era with more British talent on the grid and rising stars like Kimi Antonelli.

“I want to thank Stefano and the F1 team for our continued partnership, which we’re excited to build on in the years ahead.”

Last weekend, Sky broadcast the chaotic Miami GP, which was marked by high-profile crashes, poor weather in the build-up and yet another memorable Martin Brundle grid walk.

Kimi Antonelli claimed victory at the GP, though it may well be remembered more for Pierre Gasly being flipped over and Max Verstappen losing control and spinning out at turn two on the opening lap.

It seemed rather fitting that Antonelli took the win, as Sky also extended their deal to remain the home of F1 in Italy for a further five years.

Their agreement in Antonelli’s home nation will run until 2032. The next race on the calendar is the Canadian GP, taking place in Montreal between 22 and 24 May.
